Moss Piglet – Cover Designed

moss piglet coverI’m delighted to have the new cover ready for Moss Piglet. Many thanks to Steve West at Steve West Design for his work on developing this.

Steve produced a number of designs for me to look at, but I liked the way this one captures the mood of the story. I am particularly keen on the roots extending down from the house. If you read Moss Piglet, you’ll see that roots such as this feature in the story. The dark figure captures the feeling of Margar, the disembodied spirit, and the main action is centred around a cottage in the Scottish countryside.

The overcast skies and crows add to the overall feel.

I now have all the typesetting complete and I hope to have Moss Piglet published via my publishing arm, Maroon Pig Publishing, later this week or early next week.

Just waiting on Nielsen to add the imprint for Maroon Pig Publishing.

The 39 Steps by John Buchan – A Review

The 39 Steps (Richard Hannay, #1)The 39 Steps by John Buchan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Being a Scot myself, I have a fondness for Scottish literature and so am partial to the books of John Buchan. He himself describes the 39 Steps as a ‘dime novel’, a short book with a rip roaring adventure that can be read on a journey somewhere. The 39 Steps also resonates with me as much of takes place just down the road in hills not far from here, though Buchan’s geography is questionable in the latter stages. Setting aside the early 20th century attitudes to women, empire and races, it’s a good story, an enjoyable read, though I found the ending kind of fizzled out a bit.
